How to Care for Your Linen Shirt
Linen asks for very little. A cool wash, a slow dry, a patient hand. In return, it softens with every summer and gathers a character no new garment can claim. These are the few rituals we recommend from our atelier.
1.Wash rarely, and gently
Linen seldom needs washing. An evening on a wooden hanger, near an open window, is often enough to restore it. When the time comes, wash at no more than 30°C, on the gentlest cycle, with a mild detergent. Leave bleach and softener aside; linen keeps its quiet lustre best without them.
2.Turn it inside out
Fasten the buttons, then turn the shirt inside out. A small gesture that protects the cloth and the mother-of-pearl.
3.Let it dry slowly
Never tumble dry. Shake the shirt once, smooth the collar and cuffs by hand, and let it dry in the shade. Strong sun is unkind to pale shades of blue and cream.
4.Press while still damp
Linen yields most easily while a little moisture remains. Press the reverse first, then the collar and placket, lightly. If it has dried completely, a fine mist of water is all it needs.
5.Allow the creases
Linen is meant to crease. The soft folds of an afternoon are not a flaw but a signature: proof of a shirt that is worn, not kept. Crisp in the morning, at ease by evening.
6.Give it room
Hang it on a broad wooden hanger, with space on either side. Avoid plastic, which holds moisture; for longer seasons, a cotton garment bag lets the cloth breathe.
Every LORLUM shirt is cut from Thomas Mason linen, woven in Italy, and made to your measure. Treated with care, it becomes softer, and more yours, with each passing year.
